Video: Baguio bans Candy Pangilinan over Igorot joke

candy pangilinan banned from baguio due to igorot joke videoI found a Youtube video on ABS-CBN's story regarding the banning of Candy Pangilinan by the Baguio City council. My take: individual Igorots need to forgive Candy Pangilinan for her mistake. It is useless and a total waste of energy not to do so. However, let those in authority do their job in ensuring such a mistake does not happen again, and if it does, it is met with dire consequences. It should not just end with Candy Pangilinan, else the lesson will never be learned. I don't doubt her sincerity. I still cling to the hope that after everything's been said and done, Candy Pangilinan will come out a better person than before. I hope the same for my fellow Igorots. BAGUIO, Philippines – Comedienne and TV actress Candy Pangilinan has been declared “personal non grata" in this mountain city resort for unsavory remarks she made during last week’s celebration of Mother’s Day at a show in SM-Baguio.

A resolution approved by the city council said the declaration was intended to “educate Ms. Pangilinan and others like her" who are “unmindful, insensitive, sarcastic, careless and irresponsible" in issuing such offensive remarks.

The resolution was supported by a letter from Sheryl Phoebe Comiles Duque, who said she witnessed the comedienne yell during the show, “akala nyo Igorot ako, hindi ako Igorot, tao po ako! (you think I’m an Igorot, I’m not an Igorot, I’m human."

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines—The video footage of comedienne Candy Pangilinan crying in remorse has been flooding the Igorot “blogosphere,” making her the latest celebrity to be chastised by this new lobby community.

Pangilinan was attacked by several blogs and by a Baguio-based lawyer for making a bad joke about Igorots during a Mother’s Day show here.

She was also the subject of a city council resolution which declared her persona non grata.

Pangilinan was quoted in the resolution as saying: “Akala niyo Igorot ako, hindi ako Igorot, tao po ako,” in a spiel.

I think if you know who you really are, you could just shrugg this statement off.

Baguio Girl, thanks for sharing the links.

TruBlue, that's a nice take on this issue. No, elections are still next year. But yes, I've read thoughts that the council would look unpopular if they didn't do anything about the brouhaha.

jerome torog-i, thanks for commenting. i think the easier way is to shrug it off. but that benefits no one. best approach is to educate people. ignorance is cured by education.

Candy Pangilinan is currently in talks with Congressman Domogan as to how she can make it up to the Igorot nation.

I have heard talks that the the Integrated Bar of the Philippines Baguio-Benguet chapter is mulling to file a case against her.

My two-cents, let Candy Pangilinan build the bridge she burned. And as Igorots, we should heed a call for healing.

I share the same sentiment. It's always better to forgive than be vindictive. It is only by showing our humanity that will completely prove Candy wrong.
Anyway, please allow me to have your blog in my roll at wwww.ayaysalidummay.blogspot.com.
Thanks.
